What if, in between potions, transfiguration, and divination classes Harry Potter and the students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry also got a sex ed class?
"I wanted to inspire other kids to really believe in themselves" said 15 year old Kimberly Anyadike from Los Angeles after she became the youngest female, African American pilot to successfully fly across the country. Another goal was to honor the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American military pilots in the United States. HIV/AIDS affects people around the world. Young people are some of the most heavily impacted by the disease and the most active in the fight against HIV/AIDS. I chose to end this week's series of blogs about National HIV Testing Day (tomorrow! GO GET TESTED!) by highlighting the work of a powerful youth AIDS activist named Thembi Ngubane. Thembi's story is all about a young person changing the world and encouraging others to do the same.
June 27th is National HIV testing day and all week I’ve been blogging about the important decision to get tested. Getting tested for HIV is one way young people can take control of their health. Knowing your HIV status can help you stay healthy and will help you protect your partners from HIV. Knowing what to expect when you go to a family planning clinic or other HIV testing site is a good way to prepare for an HIV test.
Now that you know June 27th is National HIV Testing Day you are probably thinking about getting tested. Good for you! Making HIV testing a regular part of your health care is a great way to take care of yourself. If you want to know more about HIV/AIDS, like what it is or how it is spread, you can read more on teensource.org
