Christina Aguilera’s new music video vs. what really matters in life

Christina Aguilera’s music video for her new song “I’m not Myself Tonight” is way too much. Whatever happened to a singer wanting attention for their vocal talent, not for how well they could blur the line between a music video and pornography? Christina Aguilera has pushed the boundaries a lot throughout her career but this video takes the cake. To me, this video represents everything that is wrong with our society’s obsession with fame and reality TV; people are sacrificing themselves for any type of attention they can get. On reality shows, people seem to prefer to be known for their outrageous and shocking behavior in order to get famous. It is like the sexier you dress and the meaner you act the more attention you will get. Christina Aguilera did this with her new video; she dressed as scandalous as she could and acted as sexy as possible in order to get the media’s attention. I think her music video, and reality TV in general, teaches youth that being sexy and bitchy is rewarding because it gets you money and fame, but our obsession with fame is sending the wrong message about what is really important in life. There is more to life than fame and money--life should be about the good work you do and the relationships you build, not for how crazy you are. In real life, dressing provocatively and being mean to people isn’t going to get you anywhere. In the real world, it is the kind of person you are that really matters and is what is going to get you places. At the end of the day, it is more important to value good and lasting qualities like kindness and intelligence instead of selling yourself out for fame.
