Skinny jeans are not proof enough to drop rape charges

I am so angry after reading this article! It talks about how a man in Australia was let off of rape charges because the girl who pressed charges against him was wearing skinny jeans at the time of the rape! Skinny jeans?! Rape is never ok, regardless of what a girl is wearing! What boggles my mind is that the jury in this case genuinely reasoned that skinny jeans would have been too much of a challenge for the guy to get off of the girl on his own so the girl must have consented to sex because she must have helped him take off her pants. WTH! If wearing skinny jeans was a two-woman operation every time you needed to get them on and off, I highly doubt girls would be wearing them every day! To me, this argument is insane; it does not require two people to take off a pair of pants. I agree with Veronica Wensing who states, "any piece of clothing can be removed with force”. Skinny jeans can be ripped off in the same exact way baggy jeans can. As upset as I am about this situation, I am more upset about the deeper meaning of the jury’s decision. Why is it that in rape cases, the offender is often sympathized with while the victim is looked at as a liar? I believe that the skinny jeans argument was only used as a quick and easy way for the jury to dismiss the case and let the guy off. In my opinion, the jury’s decision shows that not everyone clearly understands that “no” means “no”. When it comes to sexual intercourse, it doesn’t matter what you are wearing or who you are. An article of clothing, whether it is skinny jeans or a short skirt, is never proof against or reason for rape.
