Say It With a Card...

There are over 5150 types of Hallmark cards, one for just about every occasion. But there’s a category that has been around for awhile that isn’t quite as common: STD cards.
Since 2006, our friends at ISIS Inc have been making it as simple as possible to inform your partner of your STD via technology. It’s an interesting project. If a person is diagnosed with an STD and they don’t want to tell their partner in person or over the phone, or can’t put the words together in an e-mail (writer’s block hits at the worst times!) they can send an e-card from InSpot.org instead. There are several different headings to choose from, including a very simple: “Heads up…I caught an STD since we messed around and you might have it too. Please get it checked out.”
Even though it might be considered a little impersonal to send an STD e-card, it’s a convenient alternative solution if you are too shy to do it in person. There are so many ways to inform your partner that you have an STD, and it’s very important to do so. It is not only the responsible and right thing to do, because it will save them from having a serious disease and serious complications that could have been prevented. If you are too embarrassed to tell them in person, or if you don’t think that you’d be able to get the words out, you can tell them in many other ways. Over the phone or through a text message works, or you can ask a trusted friend or parent to help you talk to them or come with you for support. And now you can even send an e-card. Inspot has made these available for awhile, when will Hallmark get on the bandwagon too?
PS: If you need to get tested, you can use our handy-dandy clinic finder here. All STD testing is confidential (no one but you will hear your results, and your parents will not be told that you even had a test in the first place!), and it can be free. If you are under 25 and sexually active, you should be have STD testing once per year, or whenever you have a new partner. What do you have to lose? Get checked out today!
