Marisol Cabrera has been a Peer Provider at Family Health Centers of San Diego for several years. Being a Peer Provider has opened up new vistas in her life and she plans to become a social worker in the future.

What got you interested in becoming a Peer Provider?

I like talking to young teens about things they can't even talk to others about.

I like it when they open up to me and ask me for reassurance if they need to.

Peer Provider Donesha Pegues: A Young Woman Who Thinks Big

Donesha Pegues has accomplished a lot. She just graduated from college with her Bachelor's in Science degree from Cal State Fullerton. She's a program manager in the health education department at Planned Parenthood where she is in charge of three teen pregnancy prevention programs and she volunteers as a Title X/Americorp intern for TeenSource. Donesha has done all that while parenting her young son all through her teen years!

Youth are a great resource for reaching out to other young people and the Youth Health Initiative Program at Family Planning Shasta County is one great example of how peer-to-peer education works. The program puts the power of an educational revolution in the hands of young people so they can change the lives of others.
