Making Stride into 2013

It’s the end of January and I feel like I started off strong with so many good New Year’s resolutions; this was going to be my year! But as usual, not even a month later, I have already fallen off the bandwagon with some of those goals (mmm cheeseburgers…).

One of my resolutions was to, hmm how can I put this… figure out some kind of birth control thingy. My boyfriend and I have been together for a while now, and I really think I am ready to get closer to him in a new way. I really want to let him in to the real me- you know, literally and figuratively. We have talked about this a lot, and both weighed in with our concerns; I’m 99% sure this is the right decision (call me a prude but if you are unsure or feel pressured, better to wait).

You can make fun of me, and maybe I’m over thinking this whole thing but dude I have future plans!  I know I want to party my butt off in college and I know I won’t get to have that fun if I get preggers.  Plus, my boyfriend’s mom told him she got pregnant on the first try.  If that runs in the family I don’t want to take any chances, yikes!

So I have been doing some reading to figure out just which birth control to choose.  After visiting Planned Parenthood, I finally settled on something called “the patch.”  There's this cool new tool called My Method which makes it easy for you to decide which birth control method will work for you.

Even though the patch seems perfect for me, it might not be for you. I like the patch because it is like a Band-Aid, you can stick it on you somewhere like your hip, or butt, or wherever.  Plus, I love that it lasts for a week, so I don’t have to think about it every day, or worry about the pills falling out of my purse.

I guess 2013 feels like it’s going to be a good year after all. I’m kind of nervous but really excited to see what this sex thing is all about. And, duh, we are definitely going to use condoms too, just to make sure we don’t have any accidents. Now, if I could only cut back on the burgers, I’d be totally set for 2013. Cross your fingers for me, I’m jumping in.
