Condoms on the catwalk! Texas designers promote HIV testing

I recently came across this awesome video of a fashion show in Corpus Christi, Texas last year that gives a whole new meaning to wearing a condom. To highlight the importance of HIV testing, Planned Parenthood of South Texas (PPSTX) challenged local designers to create a wearable piece of clothing out of condoms they provided for free. Then they held this fun event to show off everyone’s work! The designers did a really great job. I think the black and white coat was my favorite. I know the school year is almost over, but this got me thinking about a couple of crafty people in my hometown who made their prom dresses out of duct tape. There’s actually a nationwide contest for this every year - students can enter and win scholarships for the best duct tape outfits. It always gets tons of publicity, too. Something like this for clothes made out of condoms seems like a good way to get teens talking about sexual health. And based on the entries we’ve gotten so far for the Condom Cover Art Contest, I know there are plenty of artistic minds out there who also care about sexual health. What do you think? Would you go to prom (or any other school event) in an outfit made of condoms? What would it look like? Do you think your parents and teachers would be supportive?
