What Twilight Taught Me

Four books, five movies, and countless vampire spin-offs later, the Twilight saga is coming to an end. Whether you’re Team Edward or Team Jacob, you’re bound to have taken away some important lessons from the series.

Looking back at it all, here were some of the main ones:

  • Though your significant other may not be a werewolf in disguise, be sure to know them a little better before you go out. Knowing someone before dating helps you to make sure they are trustworthy and won’t physically harm you. This is sometimes hard to judge initially, so if you find yourself in an abusive relationship, there are many resources you can use and hotlines you can call.
  • Vampires that don’t drink human blood? Clearly not all stereotypes are true. You shouldn’t assume you know everything about someone based only on one of their characteristics, like their race, sex, or even their hobbies. There are much more to people than what is on the surface.
  • Bella got pregnant the first time she had sex, and you can too. Don’t assume that because it’s only your first time that nothing will happen. Be sure to practice safe sex every time.
  • Even vampires can get people pregnant – always use protection. Even if you think your partner can’t get you pregnant (or that you can’t get pregnant) be sure to use condoms or birth control. You never know what may happen.

Unprotected teen sex and marriage make for a good vampire drama, but not in real life. If you go out to see the new, and final, Twilight movie this week, keep a look out for any other take-away messages and let us know what you find!
