Can I get pregnant during my period? There’s always a chance if u aren’t using BC.

MYTH: I can’t get pregnant during my period.

FACT: Yes you can! Whether it’s the beginning, middle, or end of the month, you CAN get pregnant any time you have unprotected sex.

Sometimes people believe the rumor that you can’t get pregnant while on your period. The fact is there’s always a chance of getting pregnant if you don’t use birth control. Pregnancy can still happen while on your period because:

  • Not all vaginal bleeding means you’re having a period. Sometimes people will bleed during ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovaries) -- the time when you are most likely to get pregnant -- and mistake it as a period.
  • Sperm can still fertilize an egg to start a pregnancy up to 6 days after entering the body. This means sperm can live to join with an egg almost a week after having unprotected sex.
