If you think you can’t get pregnant the first time you have sex, think again!

Hookup Tip from Calisa

Pregnancy can happen anytime you have sex, including if it’s your first time.  And we’re sure you’ve heard other myths too including a girl’s inability to get pregnant if she’s on her period, or if you have sex in a pool. All false! Luckily, there are some birth control options that help prevent pregnancy, and are safe, effective, and affordable to everyone.

  • Long-term Methods include the IUD (intrauterine device) and the implant, both of which require a visit with a clinician but last anywhere from 3 to 12 years.
  • Hormonal Methods include birth control pills, shots, patches, and rings, which all require a prescription from a clinician.  There’s a wide range of choices to fit every need and lifestyle!
  • Barrier Methods the most effective of which are condoms (both male and female). Condoms can even be mailed to your home through the Condom Access Program.

Some of these methods also prevent STDs, but not all of them, so it’s a good idea to talk with your clinic about all the benefits and risks associated with each method.  Find a local clinic to get started today!
