Lubricant, or lube, is a slick, slippery liquid or gel that can be used during vaginal or anal sex. Lube can feel amazing, and because it reduces friction, it can also prevent condoms from breaking during sex. Now that’s a win-win!

Most condoms come pre-lubricated, but many people find that the small amount that the condom comes with doesn’t last very long. Extra lube can be used to add some more slip’n’slide! A few drops can be added inside the tip of the condom to give more sensation to the condom-wearer, and can be added to the outside of the condom once it is on.

There are three main kinds of lube: water-based (like Astroglide or KY), silicone-based (which is thinner and feels more like oil), and then oil-based. If you are using condoms, oil-based lube is a big no-no, because it can break down condoms and cause them to rip. Stick with water-based or silicone-based lube to keep your condoms intact.

You can get lube at the grocery store (usually near where the condoms are located), or you can visit a clinic near you.
