Alternatives to sex: Time for some REAL suggestions!

Let’s say you’re dating or hooking up with someone, but you’ve decided not to have sex (oral, anal, or vaginal). This could be for any number of reasons: you’re both waiting until your STD test results come back, you don’t want to risk getting pregnant, or maybe you’re just not ready to start having sex with that person. This can be a tough situation—how do you have fun and express your sexual feelings without actually having sex?

Last week, while doing research for a blog post, I looked around on the internet for suggestions for alternatives to having sex. Some ideas I found: “Make a mix-tape for your partner,” “Walk arm-in-arm,” and “Bake a cake together.” (One list even suggested: “Cut each other's toenails.” Um… what?) Let’s be honest: if you're hooking up with someone you're really attracted to, walking arm-in-arm just doesn’t sound that exciting. There must be some better (and sexier) alternatives to having sex!

So here’s the challenge: let’s come up with our own list! Whether you’re drawing from imagination or personal experience, I bet you have some suggestions for low-risk alternatives to sex that are way more fun, realistic, and sexy than the ones floating around on the internet. Once we come up with a list, I’ll publish it in the blog. Here's how you can join the conversation:

  • Facebook: Post your suggestions in the “Discussion” section of our Facebook page.
  • Twitter: Tweet your suggestions – just include “@teensource” in your tweet.
  • Email: If you’d rather not share your suggestions publicly, feel free to email us directly at teensource@cfhc.org.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas!
