Remember, you can always choose to wait. Don’t have sex if you’re not ready.

Sometimes we may feel the pressure to have sex.  Whether it’s coming from the lyrics of a popular song on the radio or from friends who are already sexually active, it can become overwhelming.

But remember that you should only have sex when you are READY!  Being ready to have sex may mean different things to different people.  And whatever your definition of sex may be, there are many things you should consider before taking the plunge:

  1. The person you are considering having sex with should also be ready to do so.  If it feels awkward to talk about sex with that person, maybe neither of you are ready to have sex.
  2. Communication between you and the person you are considering to have sex with is really important.  Talk about what scares you, what excites you, and what you are expecting to get out of sex.
  3. Make sure to learn about how to protect each other from an unwanted pregnancy or a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD).

Never have sex without feeling like you are ready to do so -- it should be something special done with someone who truly cares about your wellbeing.  You and your partner can get more information from Teensoure.org.  We’ve got your back!
